The Immigrant Women’s Centre offers a number of different programs supporting immigrant women’s integration into the Canadian labour market:  

Employment Support Services:

At the Immigrant Women's Centre, Employment Counselors/Job Developers are dedicated to linking immigrant and refugee women with job opportunities. Services include resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation and practice, short and long-term goal setting and action planning as well as on-going support. Front-line staff offer personalized, confidential assistance to each woman.

Our experienced Employment Counselors work with hundreds of employers in and around Hamilton to stay connected with current job opportunities. Our employer contacts represent a broad range of sectors including health care, education, the service industry, manufacturing, engineering, customer service, and more.

I-WORK! Orientation to the Labour Market Workshops  

The I-WORK! program (Immigrant Women with Opportunities, Resources and Knowledge!) offers an intimate venue for immigrant and refugee women to explore Canadian job search strategies. Workshops are participatory, inclusive and confidence-building in adherence with Popular Education principles. Topics include: skills and personality assessments, goal-setting, resumes, cover letters and reference preparation, job search strategies, focusing on the hidden job market, and intensive interview training. Childminding is free for program participants.

Educational Assessment and Counseling  

The education assessment service is available to IWC clients who are currently looking for employment. In partnership with the Adult Basic Education Association, an experienced assessor on-site provides counseling related to education, training and accreditation as well as providing assessments to determine functional academic levels.

Personal Support Worker Program  

The Immigrant Women’s Centre facilitates training, education and employment for participants in this new field of expanding work opportunities. This 18-week program, delivered by an accredited health institute, provides both theory and practical hands-on learning thus responding to a growing demand for qualified Health Care Professionals. After completing the program, graduate find work in the field with the support of our Employment Counselors.
