Financial Literacy Workshop
In May 2009, the IWC launched a new Financial Literacy workshop.
The program – made up of six-week sessions geared to immigrant women - is the first of its kind in Hamilton. The course aims to enable newcomer women to control their financial futures and realize their goals faster by introducing them to the ins-and-outs of managing their money in Canada.
Subjects covered include:
- Basic Banking: choosing the right account, fees, interest
- Budgeting: identifying spending habits, tracking expenses, making a plan
- Savings: retirement funds and children’s education
- Borrowing: mortgages, business loans, managing debt
- Fraud: protecting yourself from credit and debit fraud, identity theft
The three-year program is made possible through the generous support of Status of Women Canada. The next session is scheduled to begin January 2010. For more information or to register, contact Nabila at 905-529-5209 ext. 261.
